There's precisely 45 days to go before we turn our backs to this year. Think of what you were doing 45 days ago. That would make it October 2nd, 2017. Does it seem like yesterday? Well that's how close 2018 is.
As I write, I'm preparing to launch Kick It To Me full swing. No more messing about with that for which life was intended. Did you see Dustin Martin going about business half-assed as he well-deservedly snagged the Brownlow and Norm Smith in the same week? What about South Australia's Sturt Football Club. They've just won back-to-back flags. And where were they five years ago? On the bones of their wotsits that's where. But with a steely resolve and never-say-die approach, consistency—in a positive direction—was their reward. Goals were attained. Awards were won. That's the spirit I admire and that's what I'm talking about.
By the way, that's Sturt Ruckman Jack Osborn in the pic, captured taking Mark of the Day during their 30 point win over South Adelaide in Round 17. Thanks Jack.
Don't you just want to bottle this stuff up? I do. So I photograph it to preserve it in time. Being on the sidelines is as close to the action a punter (or photographer) can possibly get and I pretty much salivate every moment. I could dine on a week's worth of smiles when sportsmen and women deliver photographic opportunities like Jack did that day.
If the last few months are anything to go by, next year is going to be intense.
Intense for what is our wonderful world of sport (World Cup, Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Adelaide Crows winning the AFL flag...) (just saying) and intense for Kick It To Me.
We're still a month-and-a-half away from singing Auld Lang Syne; so don't think of this as 'getting ahead of yourself'. Rather, as preparation for the best that's to come. Think of these next 45 days as pre-season. That's a thing in business too you know.
Are you up for it?
